Sunshine Coast Architects

Luxury homes designed for the Sunshine Coast and Noosa

Kelder Architects designs luxury homes on the Sunshine Coast, from a hillside house behind coastal forest at Sunshine Beach to a riverside renovation on the Noosa River. The practice was founded in 2011 by registered architects Joel and Wesley Kelder, and our Sunshine Coast projects are designed with trusted builders and landscape designers.

Our approach is the same on the coast as in the city: a house should connect the people living in it to the place around it. On the Sunshine Coast that means designing for sun, breezes, trees and water, and for the salt and wind that come with living close to the ocean.

Sunshine Beach House

Timber hillside home at the beach

Sunshine Beach sits just outside the boundary of Noosa National Park, and this house is a short walk from the beach, protected behind a band of coastal forest. The site is a triangular, hillside block, and that shape guided the plan. The clients wanted a five-bedroom home with several living areas and room to host their children, grandchildren and extended family. The levels are linked by considered voids and a central spiral staircase, and the materials were chosen for texture and durability as much as appearance, so that the house works as a retreat from the coastal elements while staying connected to its surroundings.

The house was built by GV Emanuel Constructions, with landscape design by John Hope Design, and photographed by Christopher Frederick Jones. It was featured in The Local Project in March 2025. The house also appears in the Australian Institute of Architects’ 2025 awards program archive (Queensland, Sunshine Coast, Residential Architecture: Houses (New)).

Noosa River House

Timber gatehouse extension to a river house

Noosa River House sits on a deep-water stretch of the Noosa River. When we were engaged, the house was partly rundown and the site overgrown, but it had the river, mature native trees and privacy. We reordered the interior by removing most of the internal walls to create connected entry, living, dining and kitchen spaces, and replaced the rear entry stair with a new elevated deck that connects the house to the river, with seating built into the deck stair.

The home was built by GV Emanuel Construction, with landscape design by Living Landscapes Noosa, and photographed by Brock Beazley. It was featured in Habitus Living.
